Part One: Team Sharp 16U Girl’s Basketball Squad Slices the AAU Competition; 5 Players

Advertisements Team Sharp’s 16U squad was one of the top New Jersey AAU basketball teams this season, posting a 41-8 record against tough national competition. Head Coach Michelle Sharp sang the praises of her players, giving credit to its success due to its amazing team unity and unselfish attitude. “We had great team chemistry,” Sharp said. “They cheer for each other, make the extra pass, and are happy for each other.” Here is a look at the players that made Team Sharp 16U squad so successful on the AAU circuit. 2022 Jocelyn Rios A player outside of New Jersey, Rios suits up for for Staten Island Academy basketball. The fact that Rios is driven in from Staten Island to New Jersey is only a testament to her unyielding commitment to working hard to improve her skillset. Let’s not forget the rising senior shoots a dangerous dagger of a three-pointer, and moves well without the ball to get open. Sydney Licerio Licerio, a 5-foot-6 guard, plays for Wayne Hills High School, where she scored 30 points in nine tilts this past year. Moreover, Licerio is scrappy, a decent outside shooter, “a great kid and teammate,” per Coach Sharp, and a fantastic student above all. Because of her high intellect, she may attend a high academic college, one in which has a Division III hoops program. But that is just speculation on my part. 2024 Abby Misier At 6-foot-3, Misier is a work in progress, but has displayed a promising game. Sharp said she owns “a a ton of untapped potential.” Plus, offers up some sage advice for college coaches. “Get in on her early,” she said. With Hightstown High School this past season, Misier poured in 91 points, grabbed 87 rebounds, made 10 steals, and blocked 22 shots, for a 2.75 average across eight contests. How long arms will serve her well around the hoop, as well being disruptive the opposition’s offense. Ineivi Plata PG/G Plata is another player outside of the Garden State, suiting up for White Plains High School in White Plains, N.Y. Sharpe says she is super quick, with a non-stop motor. Plus, “a tough-as-nails kid.” She also posses a good handle, passes the rock well, owns a nice outside shot, and gets into passing lanes for steals. Those hoop attributes bode well for the rising sophomore’s future success in the sport. Zeynep Ozel — Blair Academy Ozel is a 5-foot-7 point guard who plays high school hoops for the celebrated Blair Academy program. Therefore, it is no wonder she’s developing into formidable player between the two top basketball programs. Team Sharp Head Coach said, “She’s a really good shooter for her age, a great ball-handler, and unselfish.” In fact, Ozel has been known to break the opposition’s ankles with the way she dazzles when she drops the rock to the hardwood and prepares to outmaneuver a defender, leaving the player glazed over.
