This recruiting thing is a package deal in so many ways. No kid really gets to the finish line without a little help along the way. But the truth of the matter is, it comes down often to the guidance of the ones they love most, the ones they trust most. In the case of Daniella Matus she had her father, Micheal, to show her the way. It was he who planted the picture in his daughters mind to see and then she simply painted the masterpiece. DANIELLA MATUS made if official this week and now has committed to the U OF LOYLOA OF CHICAGO.
DANIELLA MATUS, has a lot to be grateful for these days. She has scored over 1000 points in her career. Won a State Championship, won the biggest Chip of all, The SHORE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP. She has won MVP’s in major events like the Shore Games. She played in the big Show Cases like the John Lucas 160. She has played for the two best teams in the state, Morris Catholic and SJV. The truth of the matter is there not a whole lot more for Daniella to accomplish in high school. She has pretty much done it all. But none of things happen without her dad, her Pops MICHEAL MATUS. He has been her angel along the way. He has been more than a dad. He has been a role model, a believer, a supporter, a fan and her motivation. He is the person that convinced her anything is possible. So Daniella has been doing just that … the impossible! Micheal Matus, above all has been a great father and a better man.
See Micheal Matus, taught his daughter to be fearless. It why she attend Morris Catholic when everyone was afraid to do so. He didn’t look at the Pauldo twins as a threat to his daughter, but rather as an asset. He knew they would help elevate his daughter’s game. So he dropped, Daniella into the fire and the rest is history, because she always responds to a challenge. She has always stepped up her game and nobody knew this better than her POPS! Daniella and Morris Catholic won a State Chip together and became the boogie monster of girls basketball. Meanwhile Daniella became one of the best combo guards in the state. All because Pops, knew what was best for his daughter.
Too often a kids inner circle does them him. But Daniella Matus and her dad knew from dad what they wanted there inner circle to look like. First Eric Myrick, is a magician at teaching kids how to elevate their game. Just ask Zoey Brooks. He and Daniella have formed an unbreakable bond. One that is built on trust and hard work. The result is what we see today. One of the best two way guards in all of New Jersey. He has helped Daniella take her game to heights she never dreamed were possible. He has given her his sweat and blood and she in return has done the same. If there is no Eric Myrick, there is no Daniella Matus. He taught her how to work and how to grind. He gave her that base all great players need along their journey.
A kid can have all the talent and game in the world. But if there is no exposure, it doesn’t do much for helping a kid fulfill a dream. You need a coach that trusts you and believes in that talent. A coach that will turn that talent loose like a hurricane on the run. A coach that lets a player show the world all those talents as it wreck havoc on the AAU world. See Michelle Sharpe, is one of the best in the business and that is what she did for Daniella Matus. She a former highly successful college coach. She turned Kean U in to a D3 terror. This is someone that knows how to showcase talent. She is a D1 coach in a high school environment. Her belief in Daniella has marrow deep and Micheal Matus knows this… together the three have made beautiful music together and thanks to them, LOYOLA just got lucky!
It hasn’t been all peaches and cream for Daniella Matus. When she moved to the Shore for family reasons. She choose to play for the best program in New Jersey, SJV. There are no promises or back room deals at SJV. You come in and fight for a job. So Daniella Matus, took a chance, she took a risk. She put her reputation on the line. That’s because she wanted to get better, challenge herself. Her experience at SJV saw her win a SHORE CONFERENCE CHIP. There were ups and downs and major adjustments along the way. There were big nights where she scored 35 points and other nights she didn’t seem to fit in. These are the things that happen when joining a new team with such a tradition. But through all the ups and downs, her father always encouraged his daughter. He reminded her of her greatness, he reminded her of her journey. So Daniella simply worked harder and harder each day. She’ll be able to lean on her SJV experience for years when she goes through tough times. She wouldn’t give back her SJV experience for a minute. She made friends, learned a new style of basketball and most importantly had her mental and emotional courage tested and game out smelling like roses. All things that she will lean on as well for years to come.
Daniella Matus will finish her senior where it all started, at MORRIS CATHOLIC. He old Coach Billy Lovett has gone to coach at the Division one level. But she’ll reunite with the Pauldo twins. The three never stop missing each other, even when she was gone, but now they’re back together. They will form the most dynamic group of guards in the state. Daniella, will be in her happy place. No pressure or stress to deal with. Just basketball and time with her family. No kid has earned it more. No dad has ever made so many great moves for their child… together they have made a dream come true…. DANIELLA MATUS is on her way to the big time. The ATLANTIC 10 and LOYOLA UNIVERSITY… it doesn’t get much better!
Let me say this about Daniella Matus, she is funny and a very caring person. She loves basketball and has such a passion for the game. She is a gym rat and somebody that light up the gym with her smile. She has overcome so much over the years. She has been so strong, it’s so hard not to love and appreciate her. This is a kid that has earned everything coming her way. About her dad you ask, will he has went to to the wall for his daughter every step of the way… they have formed a team for the ages!
CONGRATS TO TEAM MATUS…on a job so well done!
